A Whole New World
Jan 07, 2025 Amazing what a suit and hat can do.
It’s not just a new look. It’s a new world.
We were playing hooky from school yesterday to go bar mitzvah shopping: a whirlwind morning of hats, eyeglasses, suits, and new reflections.
It was intense—watching my son try on not just clothes but a whole new sense of self. He stood straighter in the mirror, adjusting the hat.
The bar mitzvah is still months away, but the preparations have begun.
Because when your boy becomes a man, it’s a big deal.
But what about when our daughters become women?
There’s no single defining moment for us. No hat, jacket, tefillin, or aliya at the Torah.
Instead, there are moments that shape us.
Subtle, sacred, and deeply personal.
Moments when we begin to know.
Moments when we see the world with new eyes and realize we’re not who we used to be.
For our sons, there will be ceremonies, celebrations, and community to guide them through. (And this year is extraordinary—all three of my boys, born in the same month, are moving through major milestones: 18, adulthood; 13, bar mitzvah; 3, upsherin.)
But when it comes to our daughters; we initiate them privately. Quietly. Because our knowing is different.
It’s not a public proclamation; it’s a light we carry within. It doesn’t need to be announced—it’s something seen in a glance, a nod, a smile.
And yet, it’s not something we’re meant to do alone.
Because women who know, know we need a tribe.
While my sons are lifted on the shoulders of the men in their lives, my daughter will stand beside me peeking over the mechitza. And she will know she belongs.
Because women belong to one another. We are links in an unbroken chain, connecting us to all the women who came before—and those yet to come.
Ignite is the other side of the mechitza.
The women who’ve been waiting to know you since you began to know yourself.
This is more than a course. It’s an initiation into a world you didn’t realize was waiting for you.
And you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Ignite opens only once a year, and registration closes in 36 hours.
When the doors close, you won’t have another opportunity to join until next Chanukah.
You’ve already waited your whole life.
And we’ve been waiting for you.
